Meeting of the Board of Trustees
Wednesday, November 4, 2020
Brockway Memorial Library Reference Room
The meeting was called to order at 8:33 a.m. by Kathleen Redmond. Present were Michelle Brown, Library
Director, Kathleen Redmond, President, Cheryl Gowing, John Camp, Secretary (via phone), Laura Farley (via
phone) and Christine Gay.

Guests: None
1. Approval of Minutes: Cheryl Gowing moved to approve the October 21, 2020 meeting minutes, Kathy
Redmond seconded. Motion passed.
2. Community Alliance Report: No report. The November 2020 meeting was postponed to December
2020.
3. Financial Report: We are in the First Quarter of the new fiscal year. The Budget is the same as last year,
but the Library has one less employee on staff. There is currently a hiring freeze implemented by the
Village. Christine Gay moved to accept the Financial Report and Cheryl Gowing seconded. Motion
passed.
4. Circulation Report: In October 2020, the Library circulated 1,555 items, and had 481 total holds placed.
The Library served 311 patrons via curbside service. A total of 5 new patrons were added in the month
of October 2020. Total patrons is now 6,454.
5. Old Business:
a. Mangrove program, which was on display at Miami-Dade County Libraries, has ended.
b. Children’s Wing Expansion: The Village has been working with the Fire Marshal to determine
the “place of refuge” for individuals in a wheelchair. Other fire safety improvements mu st be
made to the Library. Stobs is working on obtaining the necessary permits.
6. Other Items:
a. Community Partnership Policy: Tabled to next meeting.
b. Revised Mission Statement: Tabled to next meeting.
c. Letter from Alice Burch: Reviewed by Library Board.
d. Library Reopening Plan: The Board reviewed the Library’s COVID-19 reopening plan. Cheryl
Gowing moved to approve, Christine Gay seconded. The Board unanimously approved the
reopening plan. The Library is scheduled to reopen Friday, November 6, 2020.
7. Announcements:
a. Virtual Puppet Theater – Wednesday, November 4th at 4pm, “How Bear Lost his Tail”
b. Virtual Brockway Reading Circle – Monday, November 9th at 7pm, “Where the Crawdads Sing”
c. Virtual Seminar with David Treece – Thursday, November 12th at 7pm, “Legislation Limbo”
d. Virtual Community Book Discussion with SFLPOC, “Caste”, Saturday, November 14th at 1pm
e. Virtual Village Kids Book Club, “Sign of the Beaver” – Wednesday, November 18th at 3:30 pm
f. Virtual Travel and Recipe Club, November 19th at 6pm, “In the Time of Butterflies” by Alvarez
