Pursuant to your request, INDEPENDENT ROOF TESTING of South Florida (IRT), performed uplift tests
on the tile roofing at the above address.
The the type is Pioneer Hacienda. The roof area tested is approximately 3451 square feet in area and was
tested at forty -five (45) locations. The tiles had been installed using the "Foam Application" method.
The uplift tests consisted of placing a load test device manufactured by CHATILLON (Model DFIS), over
the tile with an adjustable connector placed under the front lip of the tile, and gradually increasing the
pressure. The gauge readings are indicated in pounds. Pressure was exerted on the tile until a reading of
thirty five (35) pounds was obtained. Visible separation was noted at zero (0) test locations at this reading.
The rood
passed (n ,accordance with Dade County Protocol PA -I06.
HU's responsibility in this project was specifically uplift testing to a specific point. No other conclusions or
observations are expressed or implied.
The tests were conducted, and the results have been reported in accordance with Dade County Protocol,
PA -106.
IRT appreciates this opportunity to be of service. If you have any questions, or need additional information,
please do not hesitate to call.

This specification is for use over any type of approved structural
deck (without insulation) which can receive and adequately retain
nails or other mechanical fasteners that may be recommended by
the deck manufacturer. Examples of these decks are wood, plywood,
and approved oriented strand board (OSB). This specification is not
for use directly over lightweight, insulating concrete decks.
Design and installation of the deck and /or roof sub-
strate must result in the roof draining freely, to outlets
numerous enough and so located as to remove water
promptly and completely. Areas where water ponds
for more than 24 hours are unacceptable and will not
be eligible for a Schuller Roofing System Guarantee.
Note: All general instructions contained in the current Schuller
Commercial /Industrial Roofing Systems Manual shall be considered
part of this specification.
ria-Flinct-
Flashing details can be found in the "Bituminous Flashings" section
of the Schuller Commercial /Industrial Roofing Systems Manual.
APltliccetioll
On roof decks with slopes up to %° per foot (41.6 mm /m), the roof-
ing felts and modified bitumen sheets may be installed either per-
pendicular or parallel to the roof incline.
Over wood board decks, one ply of sheathing paper must be used
under the base felt, next to the deck.
Using one of the base felts listed, start with a piece 24" (610 mm)
wide. The remaining felts are to be applied full width with 3"
(76 mm) side and 4" (102 mm) end laps over the preceding sheets.
Nail the laps at 9" (229 mm) centers, and down the longitudinal
center of each felt place two rows of nails, with the rows spaced
approximately 11" (279 mm) apart, and nails staggered on approx-
imately 18" (457 mm) centers. Use nails or fasteners appropriate to

the type of deck, with 1" (25 mm) minimum diameter caps. For
additional fastener information, refer to the fastener data in the
"Roof Decks" section of the current Schuller Commercial /Industrial
Roofing Systems Manual.
Roll an 18" (457 mm) wide piece of one of the intermediate felts
listed into a full mopping of bitumen. Over that, apply a full width
piece. The remaining felts are to be applied full width, overlapping
the preceding felts by 19" (483 mm), so that at least 2 plies of felt
cover the base felt at all locations.
Apply a full width piece of one of the cap sheets listed into a full
mopping of bitumen. Subsequent sheets are to be applied in the
same manner, with 4" (102 mm) side and end laps over the preced-
ing sheets (6" [152 mm] end laps for DynaLastic products).
Apply all felts so that they are firmly and uniformly set, without
voids, into the hot bitumen. Bitumen temperature should be at the
Equiviscous Temperature (EVT), +_25 °F ( ±l 4 °C), at the point of
application. All felt edges shall be well sealed. The bitumen shall
be applied just before the felt, at a nominal rate of 23 lbs. per
square (1.1 kg /m2). When applying over insulations, more than
23 lbs. per square (1.1 kg /m2) of bitumen may be needed due to
the absorbency of the insulation. For modified bitumen sheets, the
bitumen temperature shall be at a minimum of 4007 (204 °C), or at
the EVT, whichever is higher, when the sheet is set into it. This higher
temperature maximizes the bonding of the modified bitumen sheet.
For cold weather application techniques, refer to Paragraph 7.31.
Steels Slope Requirements
Special procedures are required on inclines over '/7" per foot
(41.6 mm /m). Refer to Paragraph 7.29.
Surfacileg
No additional surfacing is required.

General Limitations:
1. All asphalt shall comply with ASTM D 312 type III or type IV requirements. All
proposed asphalt producers must be approved by the applicant.
2. Fire ratings are determined by a combination of slope, deck type and assembly.
Refer to current Underwriters Laboratories Roofing Materials Directory or other fire
testing data listed by an approved listing laboratory agency. Fire ratings shall be in
compliance with Sections 3401.5 and 3401.6 of the South Florida Building Code.
3. Maximum slope range shall vary for each system; consult current Underwriters
Laboratories Roofing Materials Directory and manufacturer's specifications for
compliance with design criteria for each project.
4. An overlay /recovery board insulation panel is required on all applications over
closed cell foam insulations when the base sheet is fully mopped. If no recovery
board is used the base sheet may be applied using spot mopping with approved
asphalt, 12" diameter circles, 24" o.c.; or strip mopped 8" ribbons in three rows, one
at each sidelap and one down the center of the sheet allowing a continuous area of
ventilation. Encircling of the strips is not acceptable. A 6" break shall be placed
every 12' in each ribbon to allow cross ventilation. Asphalt application of either
system shall be at a minimum rate of 12 lbsJsq.. Note maximum design velocity
j pressure restrictions on spot attached systems.

9. If required, any Factory Mutual Approved vapor barrier in conjunction with
proprietary or approved adhesives may be used prior to the application of the
insulation layer.
10. Perimeter and corner areas shall have an increase in fastener density for both
insulation and base sheet in compliance with Dade County Protocol PA 117 of the
South Florida Building Code.
11. All attachment and sizing of perimeter nailers and metal profile designs shall

Re: Deirer residence reroof
1420 NE 102 Street
Miami Shores Village, FL
Permit No. 42581
Dear Sirs,
We have installed the valley metal between the #30 felt and the #90 felt on subject
project. We feel this application is much higher quality than installing the metal flashing
on top of the mopped in place #90 for the following reasons:
1. The metal has no exposure to the outside elements as it is fully laminated
between the plies.
2. No nails are penetrating the finished plies of the underlayment as would be if
the metal flashing was installed on top of the #90.
3. This application does not create the backward laps in plies which would occur
when stripping in the sides of any metal flashing installed on top of the #90.
4. Our application is in line with other industry standards such as the FRSA/
NTRMA and the NRCA.
The only industry standards we have found which show metal flashings installed on top
of underlayments are for single layer, unsealed underlayments; not two ply, fully mopped
systems as the #30/ #90 system we have used here.
Please be advised that Latite Roofing and Sheet Metal Company holds harmless the City
of Miami Shores Village from any and all problems which may arise in the future which
are directly and specifically attributable to the installation of the valley metal flashing
used on this project.
