Minutes - December 11, 2019 Meeting of the Board of Trustees Wednesday, December 11, 2019 Brockway Memorial Library Conference Room Meeting called to order at 9:27 a.m. Present were Michelle Brown, Library Director, Laura Farley, President Kathleen Redmond, Vice President, Cheryl Gowing, and Christine Gay, Secretary. John Camp was excused. Public comment: None Presentation: None Guests: None 1. Approval of Minutes: Reference to Airbnb on 125th street in the November 13, 2019 minutes needs to be changed to 115th street. Motion to approve revision made by C. Gowing, seconded by C. Gay. Motion passed. 2. Community Alliance Report: Presented by Kathy Redmond. Village is instituting a Resiliency Committee to address climate change; Mayor’s Ball is March 14th. 3. Financial Report: There was nothing significant to report. The Library made $16 in the front desk book raffle for November 2019. C. Gowing moved to accept the financial report, C. Gay seconded. Motion passed. 4. Circulation Report: In November 2019, the Library circulated 4,449 items, and 103 holds were placed. The Library added 70 new items, 28 book donations and repaired/replaced 76 items. Twenty new patrons were added. The Library digitally archived 38 items. The current patron count is 6,385. There were 44 checkouts on RB Digital Magazine. 5. Old Business: a. Construction Update: Michelle Brown, Cheryl Gowing, Stobs and the Library architect attended the Planning and Zoning meeting on November 21, 2019. The Site Plan was approved. Stobs has applied for permits which are being reviewed by Miami Shores Village. b. Termite tenting will take place on December 27 -28, 2019. The Library will be closed on those dates. It will reopen on December 30th. c. The mangrove art installation by Xavier Cortada is planned for January 2020. 6. Other Items: a. Capital Projects: The main room lighting project has been awarded to Longman Electric and it will begin in the next few weeks. The total cost will be $4,800. A new water fountain was installed in October. The cost was just under $1,000. The Library is planning on replacing the copy machine. The new one will have scanning capabilities and color printing. It was suggested that a lease would be better than a purchase to enable the Library to keep costs low while offering more current technology. b. Unity Day will be on February 8, 2020 11am – 4pm. 7. Announcements: a. December 12, 2019 Seed Share kickoff with Corinne Mariposa. Attendees will learn about seeds, how to harvest them and how to plant them. b. DINGGIN Choral group concert will take place on Friday, December 13th at 7:00 p.m. c. Volunteer Reception is Tuesday, December 17th at the Country Club. d. Essence Nutrition presentation will take place January 16th at 6:15 p.m. e. The Black History Month kickoff is February 6, 2020 at the Miami Shores Multipurpose Center located at 9900 NE 2nd Avenue. f. The next Fine Arts Artist Reception will take place at the Library on Thursday, February 13, 2020. This will include the Leonor Anthony Jazz Exhibit. 8. Public Comment: None. 9.
