Advisory Board Meeting
Wednesday, April 24, 2019
Present: M. Wilcoxen, M. Gallo, M. Mennes, C. Baetzel, R. Strickland and A. Pozzi
T. Halloran, P. Rajo and M. Griffith phoned into the meeting
Meeting was called to order at 5:35 pm (Mr. Halloran came into the meeting at 6:27 pm)
A. Pozzi -
• We have a remote quorum (Mrs. Griffith, Mr. Rajo and Mr. Halloran via phone)
• Our first burger and craft beer night attendance exceeded our expectations, unfortunately there were
long waits for service and food
• Made adjustments to the dining room and kitchen schedule for the next Burger Night
• We had 800 people for Easter, with great comments and compliments
New Business:
M. Wilcoxen –
• Electing new officers to the Miami Shores Woman’s Golf Association Board
• Next week is our beat the pro golf tournament
• The closing luncheon will take place on May 9th , and the new elected officers will be installed at
that time
• Took pictures of all the winners from the 5 major tournaments and will display them in the ladies
locker room on the bulletin board
M. Gallo –
• Thursday Burger night was excellent
• There should have been better communication with the guests about the delays in food
• The restaurant Chef came out and spoke to everyone, nice touch
M. Griffith –
• Thursday night was the worst dining experience I ever had here in 20 years, very disappointing,
very long wait for food and poor service
• The server did not clear the tables
• The server, Laura, did not write the order down and when the order was served to the table, it was
incorrect
A. Pozzi –
• Did not expect the turnout we had, the kitchen, dining room and bar were overwhelmed
• We were understaffed for the number of guests that turned out
• I take responsibility, please accept my apology
M. Griffith –
• Easter was great
• The food was excellent
• Are you going to add a vegetarian burger?
A. Pozzi – We first have to master the menu we have, and then we will add additional items
M. Mennes –
• Communication amongst staff and customers was zero at the 1st burger night
• Came in at 9pm and could not get a drink, left and went to the Citadel where we were served
immediately
• Should send out communication out to apologize for Thursday night
• The word out on the street is Miami Shores Country Club lunch takes a long time
• I eat at the bar and get my food in 5 minutes
• Last Saturday there was a scramble tournament that was shotgunned off the back 9, and resulted in
slow play
• Players should be informed if there is a tournament that will affect pace of play
A. Pozzi –
• We cannot send a blanket email out to everyone, apologizing to people that were not here
• We addressed the issues with those guests that were affected
• Regarding pace of play last Saturday, no golf course in the country can guarantee rounds of 3 hours
or less on a weekend morning. Although we often have players complete their rounds in under 3
hours at Miami Shores Country Club, it is not a reasonable expectation. Additionally, our staff
communicated with the early groups that could be affected by the shotgun, alerting them to the fact
that they could not turn to number 10 before 9 am or 2 hours after their tee off time. As it was, all
the early morning groups completed their round in 4 hours, a more than acceptable pace. Please let
me know which members were unhappy as I would like to discuss their expectations directly with
them
P. Rajo – On Saturday, Chris communicated to my group that play would be slower than usual and what
time we should turn to number 10
T. Halloran –
• The feedback I received from the tournament I hosted last Saturday were only good comments
• For my next tournament, I would like to do a course buyout
P. Rajo –
• The greens are in great condition
• The tee boxes are super healthy and look fantastic
• It is nice to see the proshop interacting with the customers the way they do
• Nice to see the camaraderie with the staff at the bar
C. Baetzel –
• Mr. Mennes, thank you for the suggestion, I did communicate with all the early groups and will do
better next time
• We had 20 players that played in the Master’s Tournament, we did lose a couple of players because
of the change in the Sunday Tee Times at Augusta National
• Dr. King was the net champion and Mr. Griffith was the gross champion
R. Strickland – Please make your reservations for Mother’s Day now
The next meeting is scheduled for May 29, 2019
Meeting adjourned at 7:30 pm
