Leslie Rackl, Executive Assistant
The meeting was called to order at 5:45 p.m.
Pictures of the actual utility boxes to be wrapped as well as the selected artwork to be used
was displayed for the Commission members to view. Ms. Dorney explained that there is a two
step process that is needed before proceeding with the project; the Village attorney and the
county attorney need to agree on the language contained in an interlocal agreement and then
a permit is needed with the Miami-Dade County traffic signals and signs department.
It was related that artist Courtney Einhorn has previously wrapped city meters but these were
city owned; the utility boxes to be wrapped in Miami Shores are county owned. The artist
wants to have her Instagram image on the artwork, which is a concern with the guidelines that
the County has listed.
At this time Ms. Hoffman excused herself and left the meeting.
Ms. Rojas made a motion to give Courtney Einhorn a $350 deposit contingent on
signing the contract and receiving hi resolution images of the artwork for the utility
boxes. Motion seconded by Mr. Bruce and unanimously approved.
Discussion turned to the selection of the utility boxes. There are eight suggested locations and
the Commission has budgeted for seven wrapped utility boxes. Mr. Baker said it may better,
politically, to keep both of the NW address locations. Ms. Rojas made a motion to eliminate
NW 2 Avenue & 95 Street in favor of North Miami Avenue & 95 Street. Motion seconded
by Mr. Clark and unanimously approved.
Discussion turned to the repainting of the mural wall on Village Hall’s front lawn. Mr. Clark
offered local artist Jona Cerwinske $2500 but the artist asked if this amount includes materials.
Mr. Clark will provide samples of the artwork at the July meeting.
Ms. Ackley noted that the Commission has submitted a budget request of $15,000 for FY
2019-2020.
The meeting adjourned at 6:45 p.m.
