2. Approval of Minutes:
Ms. Vignale moved to approve the November 28, 2018 minutes, Ms. Walker seconded and the minutes
were approved unanimously.
3. Discussion of Business:
Mr. Netto discussed the next steps in the survey process. Ms. Vignale will create a Survey Monkey survey
and send Ms. Rodriguez the link to be embedded onto the board’s subpage. If possible, we will include
information about the survey in the February Village Newsletter, and Ms. Rodriguez will confirm with the
Village Manager to have the information posted on the marquee on 96 Street as soon as we are sure the
survey is posted to the MSV website. We will also place flyers at various locations, including MSES and
the Community Center, to solicit participation. The members agreed that we will run the survey for
approximately 30 days.
Ms. Vignale will collate and organize the results and create a report for the March meeting. Timing was a
subject of discussion. The board would like Ms. Swain to have an Open House for prospective students.
The Board agreed that marketing the school and emphasizing the $6 million in capital improvements that
will be made should be the focus of the marketing. Using the improvements as the catalyst to hold a
“celebration” event, which would also include a brief history of MSES, was agreed upon.
Mr. Garber suggested that we increase our communication with Ms. Swain, perhaps with updates after
each meeting. Ms. Rodriguez stated that she can create a summary of bullet points of our meetings.
The Board discussed the possible event and it was decided that Ms. Vignale will inquire as to what, if
anything, is already being planned. If there is an event already scheduled, we will see if we can piggyback
on that event, incorporate the history of the school, and make it even more celebratory with a “looking
back and looking forward” theme. Depending on the timing, the candidates for Village Council, as well as
current Village Council members and the Village Manager will be invited to attend. Previous principals
could also be invited.
Improvements planned for the school include, but are not limited to, resurfacing both playgrounds,
installing a covered walkway, removing the portables, constructing an additional building, and adding a
new sound system.
Ms. Duerkopf suggested that in addition to the celebration and the Open House, it would be beneficial to
host an event at the school that was focused on family fun. Mr. Netto shared that his wife is in marketing
and will offer to help Ms. Swain in that area, beginning with the school website.
Mr. Garber moved to appoint Mr. Netto to reach out to Ms. Swain and Ms. Walker seconded. The points
of communication would include: A positive expression of support, help with a celebration event, help
with an Open House for prospective students, and also suggest the possibility of a family event. He will
also discuss the website assistance. The motion passed unanimously.
The Board expressed the need to have MSES PTA representation at our meetings. Ms. Rodriguez will
reach out again to Ms. Crespi and see if she is able to attend the meetings. If not, it would be advisable
to appoint a new representative from the PTA. Ms. Walker made a motion to have Ms. Rodriguez write a
letter to the PTSA and ask for a representative who is able to attend our meetings. Ms. Vignale seconded
and the motion passed unanimously.
The Board agreed that if we have a timeline of events available from the District we will need to meet
again this month.
Next meeting: Thursday, January 31, 2019, at 6:30pm in the Village Hall Conference Room.
The meeting was adjourned at 7:32pm.
