04-29-1992 Regular Meeting A 1 ADVISORY BOARD MEETING APRIL 29 , 1992 Present: Lewis Harms, Chairman; Ernest Upthegrove; Nina Huston; Agnes Aspinall; Joseph Obermeyer; Chuck Hart; Joe Schwartz, Alberto Pozzi and Dick Thornton. Absent: Richard J. Haft. The meeting was called to order by Chairman Harms at 5: 35 P.M. Report by Mr. Hart: 1. Golf Course: Mr. Thornton suggested if Mr. Hart cannot attend a meeting that the head golf pro be in attendance. The fungus problem is under control . The traps are being worked on. The first and fourth greens will be rebuilt. Major work to begin 2nd week in May. Bunkers will be improved. Work should not disrupt play. Areas to be sodded. Work should take 3 or 4 days to be completed. 2 . Railroad Crossing: Mr. Hart spoke to Tony Clemente why work has not begun. Hopefully construction will commence soon. 3 . Membership and Use of Club Facilities: The Premier Card has generated 3 , 000 new members for summer membership program. Newspaper coupons will be phased out. Bulk of new members are from Northern Dade County. Mr. Thornton wants the club to keep a list to see how many become a full dues paying member. Also Mr. Thornton has received complaints re: Premier Card; summer members versus regular members. Mr. Hart said it happens every year and then it goes away. Mr. Upthegrove stressed the fact that in order to get new members, both young and old, you need a first rate golf course. Renovations are a problem. Old 7th fairway is a cause of concern. Mr. Thornton suggested golf instruction for children. Mr. Hart said that the club has commitments and corporate sponsorships for over 400 children to participate in an 8- week summer program. It is free. Club supplies equipment. Recreation departments throughout the city provide transportation. Mr. Pozzi said the dining room wants to maintain a high quality of service and keep a high standard of food as the costs per meal are averaged out. Mr. Schwartz advised that we could attract more diners if meals could be served earlier. Now we have daylight saving time but soon it will be dark again at 5: 30. Some people do not like to drive at night. 4 . 5-Acre Parcel: This piece of property has been redefined. Approximately 4 . 1 acres recaptured. Handling overflow parking. 5 . Tennis: Mr. Schwartz reported that the annual \� tournament began April 25 and will run though the middle of May. A banquet will be held at the conclusion of the tournament. 6. Social Committee: Ms. Aspinall and Mr. Pozzi will work on upcoming events. 7 . Mr. Thornton suggested that the club follow the UM Hurricane Club and University of Florida programs explaining the benefits of being a member versus not being a member. Mr. Harms announced that the next meeting of the Advisory Board will be held on Wednesday, May 27, 1992 at 5: 30 p.m. ; whereupon, upon motion duly made, seconded and carried, the meeting was declared to be adjourned at 6: 35 p.m. f
