ADVISORY BOARD MEETING
January 23, 1992
Present: Lewis Harms, Chairman; Dick Thornton; Ernest
Upthegrove; Richard J. Haft; Nina Huston; Agnes
Aspinall ; Joe Schwartz; and Chuck Hart. Also
attending: Ms . Gail MacDonald, Village Manager.
Absent: Joe Obermeyer.
The meeting was called to order by Chairman Harms at 5 : 30 PM.
I . Report by Mr. Hart:
1 . Golf course: The fungus problem on certain greens is
still present. The new strain is communicated by the
mowers . Staff is investigating new treatments.
2 . Railroad Crossing: FEC stated that the contracts were
in the mail and that Dade County was thereupon prepared
to do the work. When completed, it will look like the
96th Street crossing with the sidewalk on the south
side of the gates as the cart path.
3 . Membership and use of Club facilities : Newsletter will
contain an item explaining the coupon being published
inviting the public to use the club.
While total membership is not down that substantially,
18-hole play is off 50% , but 9-hole play is up.
Several clubs are forming an alliance to afford full
reciprocity during the summer (except surcharge to use
the Doral Blue Course) .
The "Everyone Welcome" ad was very successful. There
has been a good response to get people to use the
driving range or to play a trial round of golf in order
to talk to them about membership.
4 . 5-acre parcel: The Village Council wants to install
a Vita course; and the Club Management wants to keep
it as some sort of golf facility, e.g. a kid' s course
and/or giant practice green.
5 . Management changes : Inasmuch as PCM is acquiring the
Kendall Golf Club, Mr. Hart will be spending most of
his time there and will no longer be the General Manager
of the Club. The role will be undertaken by Alberto,
with a new food and beverage manager to be appointed.
Randy, who had been head golf pro, has been moved to
Bonaventure; and Mike Walsh has been promoted to Head
Pro here.

6 . Tennis : Any member who had sent in his assessment for
the lights will receive a refund.
The Club will get more involved in the International
Junior Tennis Tournament for next December and should
receive more publicity.
7 . Break-in: On January 27, 1992, a person entered the
Men ' s Locker Room door having been left open) . 52
lockers were rifled. The Club is insured for the losses
sustained by the members and has set a procedure through
the Pro Shop for claims.
8 . Remodeling of Course: The re-building of parts of Holes
#1 and #4 will be commenced in May. Mr. Thornton stated
that the 2nd tee needs reworking and the unplayable
areas should be marked on a weekly basis. The Pro has
been instructed to do so, as to unplayable lies.
In response to Mr. Upthegrove ' s inquiry, it was stated
that there is very little that can be done to get rid
of the large number of noisy birds on the course.
9 . Handicap: New handicaps, with two to be considered
for various holes depending on the tee being used, will
be established now under the direction of Mr. Thornton.
10 . Social Committee: There will be a meeting on February
11 , 1992, to which six couples will be invited to
formulate and promote social events .
Commencing in March, there will be one or two Wednesday
night dinners with items @ $8 .95 or $9 . 95 a la carte,
instead of theme buffets.
Sunday brunch will be open to Miami Shores residents
to acquaint them with the Club.
The new Membership Roster, together with Rules and Regulations,
is at the printer and should be circulated to the membership
by mid-February. The next meeting of the Advisory Board will
be held on Wednesday, February 26, 1992 , at 5 : 30 P.M. ; whereupon,
upon motion duly made, seconded, and carried, the meeting was
declared adjourned at 6 :45 P.M.
