ADVISORY BOARD MEETING
December 23 , 1991
Present : Lewis Harms, Chairman; Ernest Upthearove; Richard J.
Haft ; Joe Obermeyer; Agnes Aspinall; Joe Schwartz;
and Chuck Hart . Also attending: Ms. Gail MacDonald,
Village Manage= .
Absent : :Fina Huston.
The meeting was called to order by Chairman Harris at 5 : 35 PM.
who , at the requests of Mr . Thornton and Mrs. Aspinall ,
respectively, directed that the Minutes of the November 26,
1991 , meeting be corrected to reflect that (i) Richard
Thornton was present at said meeting; and ( ii ) the Mayor ' s
Ball scheduled for February 29 , 1992 will also celebrate the
Village ' s 60th b:.rthday.
1 . Report by Mr . Hart :
1 . Golf course : landscape and clean-up are 85% complete .
Fungus on first green corrected, with the front one-third
being regrown.
The men ' s Golf Association events are very
successful ; and the driving range is doing well .
There continues to be a problem in obtaining a good
ranger . Mr . Upthegrove ' s suggestion that perhaps a retired
member might be recruited was discussed; but it was felt that
such a job could place a member in an uncomfortable position.
The ongoing problems with kids trespassing on the course seen
to be subsiding. Apparently, the call to Miami Shores
Elementary School helped. However , members continue to pick
up and use range balls.
Mr . Thornton agreed to re-handicap the golf course as
now laid out .
2 . FEC : Dade County is going to widen and connect
sidewalks over the Dade County crossover on the south side of
107th street . No payment by the Club will be required, but
the Club will have to install some fencing. Mr. Thornton
expressed concern over the safety of golf carts vis a vis
fast moving automobiles. Mr. Hart will review this issue
with Asst . County Mgr . Clemente .
3 . Tennis: The installation of lights has been tabled,
and will be discussed and represented to the tennis
membership. 34 members have now responded to the recent
request for an assessment to install the lights, with 17 pro
and 17 con..
4 . Membership: there may be 12 members not renewing due
to the trail fee policy.
Mr . :?art advised the Board that the latest
ads , offering discount coupons to encourage outsiders to try

the course, emphasize that the Club is non-discriminatory,
Mfr . Hart believing that there is a perception in the
community that the Club is very restrictive in its
membership. This view was confirmed by Mr. Schwartz .
5 . Social : Mrs . Aspinall has submitted names for a new
social committee, as discussed at the last meeting. Mr.
Harms will do so shortly and will also contact 25 couples
prior to upcoming affairs to get them to form tables. Mr .
Harms will get together with Mr. Hart with respect to this
_new social committee after New Year ' s. There are presently
more than 250 reservations for the New 'Year= s Eve party.
6 . Food and beverage : The Club is definitely planning to
start having Sunday night dinners right after the conclusion
of the football season. Although liquor prices have been
increased, they are still below other establishments in the
area.
7 . 5--acre parcel : flans are still being drawn for the 3-
par course . The Village is looking into installing a Vita
course and the two uses may not be mutually exc2u5i.ve . Mr.
Schwartz espressed concern over the annual Kiwanis picnic
held at this site. If the parcel is to be developed, Me .
MacDonald will look into locating another place for the
picnic.
Mr . Harms announced that the next meeting will be held at
5 : 30 PM on Wednesday, January 29 , 1992 , whereupon the meeting
was declared adjourned at 6 : 35 PM.
