MIAMI SHORES COUNTRY CLUB
ADVISORY BOARD MEETING
MARCH 27, 1991
Present: Lewis Harms, Dick Thornton, Ernest Upthegrove, Richard
Haft, Joe Schwartz, Joe Obermeyer, Jule Petruziello,
Jim Meyer, Chuck Hart
The meeting was called to order by Chairman Harms at 5:35 PM.
The first order of business was the consideration of the minutes
of the February 27 meeting, which were approved.
I Report by Chuck Hart:
1 . Driving Range - Plans have been re-drawn and are ready for
submission at the next Village Council meeting. The existing
1st hole will be the new driving range, very large tee and
beautiful. The present driving range will become the 1st hole.
To protect Mr. Bell ' s house, the area from 200 to 270 yards
from the tee will contain several bunkers, forcing players to
drive short of this area. There was discussion as to whether
improvements to, and lengthening of, the 14th hole might take
place at the same time.
2 . Golf - There was discussion about the bag boys, lost clubs
and towels , and Mr. Hart agreed to look into it.
The Men 's Member/Guest event went very well .
At Mr. Thornton ' s suggestion, the practice putting green will
be restored to nine holes .
3. Traffic light - Still awaiting a firm decision as to final
approved design of driving range with relocated entry.
4 . Improvements - Window tinting on bar windows was not
satisfactory, so awnings will be installed immediately.
5. Membership promotion - Rather than offering a "Summer
Membership" , the club will offer an 18 month promotional
membership for the same cost as an annual ( 12 month) membership.
Also, can be paid in periodic increments . Example: For any
golf membership, 25% can be paid in April, 50% in September,
and the remaining 25% in December. For Intermediate, ( 35 years
of age or younger) , dues can be paid monthly over the first
12 months of the 18 month membership. (See Attached Schedule)
We currently have 310 golf members, would like 350 . Mr. Hart
believes the decrease in memberships are due to the increase
in the cost.

Other future considerations: Initiation fees to fund Capital
Improvements; also, an "All Inclusive" membership, which will
include cart fees, range balls, etc. Est. price would be
$ 3 ,200 for Resident Family, $ 4,200 for Non-Resident Family.
Also, for any existing member "sponsoring" a new golf member,
we will issue a $ 100 Food & Beverage credit.
II Tennis report by Joe Schwartz:
1 . The courts are operating at capacity, and could use two
more courts. The draw for the April tennis tournament will
be held at Mr. Schwartz ' s house on April 2 , 1991 .
2 . Upon Mr. Schwartz ' s request that the shrubbery surrounding
the courts be trimmed, Mr. Hart said that same would be taken
care of, but requested that these matters be brought to the
attention of the staff by meeting with the tennis pro.
3 . The Miami Shores Country Club Youth Tennis League is gaining
recognition throughout the metropolitan area.
III Good & Welfare:
Mr. Hart announced that a summary of the Country Club/Village
lease is being completed now, and will be mailed to Advisory
Board members shortly, along with the new roster booklet, which
is presently being printed.
There was no further business , and the meeting was adjourned
at 6:40 PM.
