MIAMI SHORES COUNTRY CLUB
ADVISORY BOARD MEETING
DECEMBER 26, 1990
Present: Lewis Harms; Dick Thornton; Ernest Upthegrove; Richard
Haft; Anne Payton; Joe Schwartz; Joe Obermeyer; Chuck
Hart.
The meeting was called to order by Chairman Harms at 5 : 17 PM.
The first order of business was the consideration of the minutes
of the Nov. 28 meeting, which were thereupon unanimously
approved.
The Chairman requested that anyone not intending to attend a
meeting please so advise the Club office directly.
I . Report by Chuck Hart:
1 . Introduction of Mr. Alberto Pozzi, the Club ' s new Food &
Bev. Director, to the members of the Board.
2 . Relocation of the Driving Range: present range must cease
operation Jan. 28, 1991 . New range as relocated will include;
( i ) double decked tee area will be sodded on both levels; ( ii )
range will be lighted; ( iii ) Snack Bar will no longer be a full
service facility and will be modified to provide only
pass-through service; ( iv) possible construction of additional
practice tee on the west for members to hit toward Biscayne
Blvd. ; (v) possible use of existing tee for lessons only; (vi )
separate access for night time use of driving range, which will
have to be manned at all times ; and (vii) estimated cost of
$ 175, 000 to be financed by Village and repaid from driving
range revenues, which are not to be co-mingled with other general
revenues of the Club.
* Preliminary sketch of the proposed new driving range as well
as relocated and modified tees, greens and fairways will be
presented at the next meeting.
After January 28, 1990 the club can possibly set up temporary
range.
3 . Pro Shop has been relocated and is open and operating in
new location. Bag drop will be improved.
4. Food & Beverage: Optimistic about improvement with hiring
of Mr. Pozzi . Expecting a good crowd for New Years Eve. The
dinners contracted for the Miami Shores Theatre parties are
proving very difficult to handle. Club will try to renegotiate.
5. Pro Am: changed to March 1 , 1991 .

6 . Bathroom facilities on course: after discussion, the
consensus was that same were acceptable. Club expects to install
indoor-outdoor carpeting therein.
7. The Club is operating profitably. However, management is
experiencing tight cash flow due to: ( i ) investment in facilities
is more than contemplated; and ( ii) required escrow of dues.
8. Traffic light at entrance: Club is actively attempting to
have one installed. Efforts in this regard are being spearheaded
by State Rep. Elaine Gordon.
9 . There was some discussion that the Men' s Locker Room might
be rearranged to accommodate the card playing area in a better
way.
II . Tennis report by Joe Schwartz:
1 . The Miami Shores Junior International Tennis Classic was
very successful . Michael Melanefy, the Tennis Pro, set up the
tournament beautifully. * See attached materials .
2 . Mr. Schwartz reminded Mr. Hart that, when installing lights
for the relocated driving range, it would be most cost effective
to install the lights for the tennis courts, as to which Mr.
Hart concurred.
3 . The Chairman suggested that the Board commend Mr. Schwartz
for the great job that he is doing for our tennis program.
The Board, after discussion, is formally requesting that the
Village Council recognize Mr. Schwartz for his efforts in this
regard.
Motion by Dick Thornton, seconded by Joe Schwartz, and
unanimously carried, to commence future meetings at 5:30 PM,
whereupon the meeting was adjourned at 6 :22 PM.
Next Meeting: Wednesday, January 30, 1991 .
