11-28-1990 Regular Meeting MIAMI SHORES COUNTRY CLUB
ADVISORY BOARD MEETING
NOVEMBER 28, 1990
Present: Joe Schwartz , Jule Petruziello, Ernest Upthegrove,
Richard Haft, Anne Payton (Chairman of Ladies Golf
Assoc. ) , Gail Macdonald (Village Manager) , Chuck Hart
The meeting was called to order by Vice-Chairman Upthegrove
at 5:15 PM, in the absence of Chairman Harms . The first order
of business was the approval of the minutes of the October 31
meeting. Mr. Upthegrove pointed out an error in that he, not
Richard Thornton, had been elected Vice-Chairman. The minutes
were corrected accordingly, and approved as corrected.
I. Report by Chuck Hart:
1 . Mr. Hart announced that, effective December 17, 1990, the
Club had severed it ' s relationship with Total Food Service
Direction, the food & beverage contractor. Professional Course
Management (PCM) will take over the food & beverage operation,
and hopes to provide:
a. An improvement in service
b. New menus
C. Reduction in prices .
2. Pro Shop - New Pro Shop is nearing completion; Mr. Hart
is hoping for completion the week of December 10, 1990 .
3 . Lockers - Mrs . Petruziello & Mrs. Payton conveyed the
complaints of the women concerning doubling up. Mr. Hart
confirmed that new members will have to share, and will discuss
that with any ladies with complaints .
4 . Membership - As of the end of November, 1990 :
a. Golf - 302 (compared with 310 last year) ;
b. Tennis - 107 (compared with 89 last year) ;
C. Social - 507 (compared with 593 last year) .
5 . Jockey Club - Mr. Hart clarified the arrangement between
the Club and The Jockey Club. The Jockey Club paid PCM $ 50, 000
for the privilege of offering golf memberships for $ 1 , 400 for
a single, and $ 1 , 800 for a family. Under the deal, The Jockey
Club needed to sell 51 memberships to break even, and has to
date sold seven. Mr. Hart expanded on this subject, in response
to an inquiry by Mrs . Payton, that the Club will continue to
be private. The recent ad did not open the Club to the public,
but required that anyone interested call and make an appointment
to play. There have been three responses. Other than the
American Heart Assoc . affair this weekend, there will be not
outside events until May, 1991 ; thereafter, outside events will
be limited to community organizations , such as St. Rose of Lima
and Barry University.

6. Tennis - Installation of lights is still on hold, pending
availability of funds, particularly because of the problem with
the Range ( see note 7) .
7. Driving Range - The driving range will have to be redirected
toward the 18th fairway. Pending negotiation with the Village,
scheduled for November 29, 1990, extensive rearrangement of
the 1st and 18th tees, fairways, and greens will take place.
However, as contemplated by Mr. Hart, there will be minimal
disruption of play, possibly only to the extent of requiring
the use of a temporary 1st tee.
8. Valet Parking - Will become mandatory at night beginning
November 30, 1990 .
This concluded Mr. Hart ' s report.
II Tennis Report by Joe Schwartz:
The Miami Shores Junior International Tennis Classic will be
held at the Club December 8 - 10, 1990 . This tournament for
14 to 16 year olds is one of the best international tennis events
for young people, preparatory for the Orange Bowl Tennis
Tournament. The contestants are housed with local residents.
There will be a free pizza party hosted by PCM.
Mr. Schwartz suggested, and Mr . Hart concurred, that the tennis
operation needs an assistant tennis professional .
NEXT MEETING: DECEMBER 26, 1990, 5:00 PM.
