2018-04-02 RAC Minutes
Minutes of the Recreation Advisory Committee held on April 2, 2018.
Members present: Jeff Geimer Manny Hadad
Jacqueline O'Donnell Karen Smith-Gulaskey
Steven Weber
Members absent: Anna Blackman Michael O'Hara
Alise Henry Michele Saporiti
The meeting was called to order at 7:05 p.m.
Mr. Weber made a motion to approve the minutes of the March 5, 2018 meeting. Motion
seconded by Ms. Gulaskey and unanimously approved.
Discussion turned to the new recreation center. Mr. Hadad's presentation was well received
by Council. It was related that Council would like to see community support before any further
discussion. Ms. O'Donnell feels the issue should be tabled for a year before further
discussion. Mr. Geimer would like to view the video of the Council meeting and discuss it at
the May meeting. Mr. Weber noted that a motion has been put forth previously to leave the
recreation center as a monthly agenda item and unless a new motion is submitted stating
otherwise, the recreation center should be left on the agenda. Ms. Gulaskey asked about an
existing database for surveys, similar to survey monkey, in Miami Shores. Mr. Weber noted
that unless the Council specifically said not to have further discussion, a new recreation center
should still be discussed. It was suggested that all the Committee members watch the
Council meeting with discussion at the May meeting.
Ms. Dorney noted that a purchase order has been submitted for two new apparatus at the Tot
Lot.
Mr. Hadad related that there is a Village ordinance prohibiting cleats on the athletic fields. Mr.
Hadad also inquired about surveillance/monitoring at the tot lot and for usage on the athletic
fields. Mr. Hadad suggested installing a fence around the recreation fields to monitor usage.
Ms. Dorney related that a fence is being installed on both sides of the maintenance shed. Ms.
Dorney also said one of the capital requests is irrigation at Constitution Park.
Ms. Dorney related that last weekend 20 Bay Harbor Island residents visited the aquatic
center.
The meeting adjourned at 8:00 p.m.
