Minutes of the Fine Arts Commission held on March 14, 2017.

The meeting was called to order at 6:35 p.m.
Correction to the minutes of the February 7, 2017 meeting. Page one, paragraph 4, line seven;
change ‘uplifting’ to ‘up lighting’. Mr. Bruce made a motion to approve the minutes of the
February 7, 2017, meeting with corrections. Motion seconded by Mr. Stock and
unanimously approved.
Discussion turned to the upcoming spring concert as details were finalized. One confirmed
food vendor for the concert is Lucio. Anam is an unconfirmed vendor. Primal Fit also expressed
interest in having a smoothie bar at the concert.
At this time Commission members commented on Unity Day and the fireside concert. It was
noted that Fine Arts made $30 from the sale of the Wynwood coloring books at Unity Day. A
suggestion was made to move the stage at the fireside concert to take advantage of the lighting.
A suggestion was also made to change the theme of the concert into a 'full moon' concert. It
was noted that the grant cycle is beginning for the Miami Shores Community Alliance. A
suggestion was made to ask for a grant for a third concert. Ms. Rojas suggested having an April
concert instead of an April art exhibit. Ms. Ackley said she would like to ask the MSCA for a
grant for up lighting for the art in public places mural. Ms. Ackley also said she would like to ask
for an additional $1500 to be added to next year's budget for an additional concert. It was
suggested taking the money for up lighting out of the donation account. Ms. Dorney will contact
an electrician for a quote on up lighting. Ms. Rojas suggested having an additional location for
art in public places. One suggestion for a site is on the west end of Constitution Park.
Mr. Stock informed the Commission that the music series at the library is going well.
Ms. Rojas requested that the Commission reimburse Ms. Ackley for the mural banner that was
purchased for Unity Day.
Discussion turned to the October library exhibit. Alberto Calvalieri is the suggested artist for the
exhibit. There were no objections from Commission members.
