It was noted that the permit fee for the Luis Valle wall is $171.70 and the cost of a 6x8 bronze
plaque for the wall is $170; a plastic plaque would cost approximately $50. Ms. Haddocks, Mr.
Stock and Ms. Rojas voted for the plastic plaque. Mr. Bruce suggested that the plaque be part of
the mural. Mr. Stock made a motion to order a 'metal looking' plastic plaque. Motion
seconded by Ms. Haddocks and unanimously approved. Ms. Haddocks said that saxophonist
Leo Casino has been secured for Gallery Night for $200. Mr. Stock made a motion to approve
a $40 budget for flowers for Gallery Night. Motion seconded by Ms. Rojas and
unanimously approved. There will be up lighting for the mural for the event, but Ms. Rojas
would like to look into low voltage lighting for the mural permanently. Ms. Ackley said she had
suggested Mr. Bruce be given a monetary honorarium from the Commission's donation account
for his time spent working with contractor Lester Jensen but this was not permitted by the
Village. Mr. Stock made a motion to allocate up to $20 on a round table cloth for Gallery
Night. Motion seconded by Ms. Haddocks and unanimously approved. Ms. Rojas said that
Mr. Valle is to be paid $2200 for his mural wall. Mr. Stock made a motion to increase Luis
Valle's payment from $2000 to $2200. Motion seconded by Ms. Haddocks and unanimously
approved.
Discussion turned to the fireside concert. A proof of the concert flyer was distributed to
Commission members for corrections. Ms. Rojas is in the process of securing food trucks for the
concert; two desserts and two savory. Ms. Rojas is looking into an Argentine food truck, an
Italian truck (FOAR - Food on a roll) and a cupcake/cake pop truck.
Ms. Ackley related that a grant request has been submitted to Unite Miami Shores; a copy was
distributed to Commission members.
Discussion turned to the April artist exhibit and suggestions for possible artists. Black & white
pen and ink drawings were shown to the members for possible exhibition. It was noted that if no

artist is selected by February the Commission will have to cancel the April exhibit. Mr. Bruce
suggested that each Commission member bring a piece of art exhibited in their home and have a
communal show. Mr. Stock suggested asking the art guild to have an exhibit.
Discussion turned to the music lecture at Brockway Library. This is a three-part series on March
16, 30 and April 20 from 6:30-7:30 p.m.
Discussion turned to Unity Day and securing a steel band for the event. Ms. Rojas made a
motion for Mr. Bruce to negotiate with a steel drum band to play (3) half hour sessions for
up to $300. Motion seconded by Ms. Haddocks and unanimously approved.
The next Commission meeting will be held on February 7th at 6:30 p.m.
The meeting adjourned at 8:00 p.m.
