Minutes of the Fine Arts Commission held on April 12, 2016.
Members Present: Susan Ackley Janet Goodman
Neil Kodsi Michael Stock
Members Absent: Victor Bruce Valentina Gutchess
Miryam Rojas
Also Present: Jerry Estep, Recreation Director
Leslie Rackl, Executive Assistant
The meeting was called to order at 6:00 p.m.
Mr. Stock made a motion to approve the minutes of the March 8, 2016 meeting.
Motion seconded by Mr. Kodsi and unanimously approved.
Mr. Estep reported that the FY ’16 Commission budget has $2977.05 remaining.
Ms. Ackley noted that the first version of the spring concert flyer did not reflect the
sponsorship of Unite Miami Shores in the newsletter and the Commission had the
Chamber send an email blast for the event advertising the sponsorship at a cost of
$100.
It was noted that term limits for code enforcement and planning and zoning boards
are now in effect. Term limits are not retroactive to time previously served on Village
boards.
The Commission noted that the spring concert was a huge success, with over 400 in
attendance. The caricature artist was a hit with the crowd. It was noted that the
Commission will need to apply for a permit from the Village to allow food trucks for
their special events.
Discussion turned to Latino 500. The curator will speak for about 5-7 minutes and
then each artist will be given 2 minutes to speak. A subcommittee will follow up with
Mr. Bruce and Ms. Gutchess on the food and drinks for the event.
Ms. Ackley is planning on making a proposal to add Art in Public Places to the
expansion of the library, which is step one. Step two is to schedule a meeting with
the library and the Commission to discuss details of the proposal.
At the suggestion of a Council member, Ms. Ackley proposed increasing the FY
2017 budget to $12,000 for an additional spring concert.
The meeting adjourned at 7:10 p.m.
