Ms. Brown-Garcia introduced herself to the Commission. She is a visual artist and said
that many Wynwood artists have left the area to go to Little Haiti due to rising costs in
the area. She was interested in seeing if the Miami Shores Chamber would rent artists’
office space at a reduced cost for a two-year time period. Ms. Ackley suggested that
another option would be to contact the Bass Museum to see about available space.
Mr. Estep related that the Commission has $2477 remaining in the FY ’15 budget. It
was suggested the Commission prepay for their October event with this year’s budget.
The donation account has $2645.
At this time there was discussion on the spring concert. Ms. Goodman suggested
having food trucks at next year’s concert which could increase attendance. It was noted
that the Optimist Club scaled back what was offered at this year’s concert. Mr. Bruce
noted that the tent obstructed the visibility of the performers.
Discussion turned to the placement of the Unity Day art work. It was suggested putting
a Plexiglas cover on the picture to prevent damage.
Discussion turned to ‘Mr. Muchlee’s’ April exhibit at the library. This will be an adult
event with the author having a reading of the children’s book the following day. It was
noted that posters are essential for events, which in turn lets businesses become more
involved.
The October photo archive event will have residents/businesses displaying vintage
photos of the Village. Mr. Poppe suggested an open call in Miami Shores and noted that
more people will attend the event if their photos are displayed. It was suggested

contacting the Chamber to see if a small ad could be placed in the Egret at no charge.
Commission members will need to divide up the list of community groups for the event;
for example, churches/schools/library/Chamber/Seth Bramson. It was suggested having
a theme for the October event. Commission members were asked to bring
ideas/themes to the May meeting.
Table discussion on plaque for art in public places until the May meeting.
Future art exhibit ideas include Gug Underwater, Tony Mendoza and Marilyn Brown.
Ms. Ackley suggested requesting a budget of $7500 for FY 2015-16.
It was suggested that the October Friday night live feature French Horn. Mr. Estep
suggested moving the Friday night live to September. It was noted that Green Day is
October 24 this year. It was suggested tabling the date of the October event until May.
Discussion turned to new business. Ms. Goodman asked about the cost of Commission
inserts in the Egret; does it generate attendance. It was noted there are more realtors
advertising in the Egret. Ms. Goodman suggested having Flamenco dancing as one of
the Friday night live events.
