Minutes of the Fine Arts Commission held on December 17, 2013.

The meeting was called to order at 6:15 p.m.
Mr. Stock made a motion to approve the minutes of the November 12, 2013,
meeting. Motion seconded by Ms. Rojas and unanimously approved.
It was noted that $4200 of Fine Arts FY 2014 budget has already been committed to
upcoming events and there is $1800 in the Fine Arts donation account.
A copy of the upcoming January Egret was distributed to members for corrections.
It was related that the movie night subcommittee selected The Muppet Movie. Other
suggested movies were Pee Wee’s Big Adventure, Charlotte’s Web and Willy Wonka.
There will be a $200 charge to show the movie and a $5 suggested donation for
admission. The Commission will also need to pay a staffing fee for the movie technician.
O Cinema will run the concession pending staff. Mr. Stock made a motion to accept
the subcommittee’s suggestion of The Muppet Movie and approve $500 for
screening fees and any additional costs. Motion seconded by Ms. Salt and
unanimously approved. Ms. Salt volunteered to be in charge of prizes for the costume
contest at the event.
Discussion turned to Gallery Night. January 16 has been set as the date for
deinstallation of the current artwork and January 23 will be the installation of Janet
Mueller’s artwork. It was noted that flutist Cathi Morro has been confirmed for the
evening.
A proposal for a call to artists for the north lawn of Village Hall was distributed to
members. This call to artists is similar to one for the lobby of Village Hall. It was
suggested that this call to artists be distributed on Facebook, The Egret and through
gallery contacts. Submission deadline is March 3. April 25 is the suggested date for the
reception for the library exhibit and the Village Hall lawn sculpture. Ms. Salt made a
motion to approve the call to artists for the north lawn of Village Hall and
distribute it to the appropriate venues contingent on Village approval. Motion
seconded by Mr. Stock and unanimously approved.

It was related that an insurance rider is needed from Dance Now for their performance
and this will be added to the cost of the performance. It was decided to have a post-
performance reception for Dance Now. The show will be from 7:30-8:30 p.m.
It was noted that the Santana band has been confirmed for the March 23 spring concert.
Mr. Stock made a motion to have a donation jar at all Commission events. Motion
seconded by Ms. Salt and unanimously approved.
Suggested artists for the October library exhibit are Alissa Christine (yearlong photo
documentary) and Federico Bianchi (Miami Shores photographer with abstract Florida-
related pictures). Mr. Bianchi has been a winner at the Commission’s Photo Op
contests. It was suggested to see if both of these artists have large pieces to display at
the library. Further discussion was tabled until the next meeting.
