I) CALL TO ORDER In Attendance: David Dacquisto, Director of Planning & Zoning Mariana Gracia, Clerk 1) Roll Call Present: Mr. Carlos Diaz, Mr. John Busta, Mr. Sid Reese, Jr., Mr. Robert Abramitis, Chairman Richard Fernandez. Chairman Fernandez made clear the workshop rules, there will be no public comment and no motion made on any of the items discussed at this time. II) DISCUSSION 1) Deck regulations. Mr. Fernandez gave an introduction as to the deck regulations. Complimented Mr. Dacquisto on the documents provided. Mr. Dacquisto spoke about Decks and the setbacks. The Board spoke about mansonry construction and asked questions. The Board discussed the setbacks particularly regarding side yards and the privacy of the neighborhood. The board commented on wood decks and their durability it was noted however they are permitted. The Board discussed the need to attach decks to a residence and if not the deck would be an accessory structure. There is no decision made on this issue today. 2) Florida Friendly Landscaping, ground cover requirements. Mr. Fernandez gave a brief summary of the Florida Friendly Landscaping and the fact that this issue has been visited before and the conclusion that was given last time this was visited. He encouraged the Board to go and tour the sites that have Florida Friendly Landscaping. The Board discussed the current code provisions and what is currently not being allowed. The Board asked questions and commented on the various heigh limits that may be attached to low ground cover, 10” or 24” or that it may be left to the discression of code compliance. There is general consensus to hold this item over to the Barry University meeting on the 21st this month. 3) Front yard hedge height limits along high traffic streets, fence material and corner plots. The Board discussed allowing metal board fences. The board agreed continue to discuss at the issue at the Barry University Workshop on the 21st of January. Adjourned at 8:30PM.
