This includes the Twitchell T70 pool fence fabric used in the Protect -A -Child Pool Fence assembly that complies with the following ASTM Standards: ASTM D5034-95, 03787-89, and G53-96. This mesh has been fully certified as meeting the above referenced Florida standard by the engineering firm of Cerny and Ivey. Drill the holes for the hinge post and gate post 36" apart -Non center". You must drill these holes on a slight angle away from the fence section which they will latch to. (From vertical, the post, when set in the sleeve, should cant approximately 3" inward or away from the section it will latch to.) . Since the sections of fence will attach to the hinge post and cater post as their terminal posts, these posts will be required to support the tension on the fence. This is done such that once the fence sections are latched to their respective posts and placed under tension, these gate support posts will be pulled dose to a vertical position. A level will help you ascertain the vertical position for these posts Adjustability of the point lock latches as well as your ability to slightly bend the aluminum pasts if necessary will help in this regard_ Fence section Gate Fence section f 2 3/4"- C - 36" 2 3/4' 0 ,-e Position of gate post and catch post sleeve groove 2. POSITION OF THE SLEEVE GROOVE The position of the groove in the sleeve for these reinforced terminal posts is important. The sleeve groove should face the fence post to which it will latch. (See diagram) This places the tension point of the lock in deck screws at the point where the posts press against the sleeve wall. 3. SETING OF TME SLEEVES FOR THE GATE AND CATCH POSTS. A tight, non twisting fit of the sleeves into the patio holes is imperative. The sleeves must not twist in the hole when the force of the self closing hinges is applied. Make sure you use whatever means are necessary to accomplish this. Generally, the tight fit of the wing sleeves is sufficient. Otherwise take proper steps (taping or adhesive) to insure a tight fit. The set screws normally used to make the fence post locking, (or two of them if you feel it is necessary) will be screwed into the side of the aluminum gate posts. They are placed at a PRODUCT AND INSTALLATION GUIDELINES FOR FLORIDA Protect -A -Child Pool Fence Systems, Inc. certifies that it's product meets the definition and requirements of a mesh safety barrier as defined in 4101.17.1.15 of the 2004 FBC Residential Building Code. Strength: Spec sheets are on fife showing that our fence mesh and support posts meet strength and UV degradation guidelines as stated In the 2004 FBC 84101.17.1.15 Fence height, post length, screw spacing, and fence assembly: Post extends 3" below grade and are attached to the mesh no more than 36" apart. Fence height is 48" Screws and Assembly: Screws attaching the molding strip to the posts are according to guidelines at #8x1/2" and spacing of the screws is less than six (6) inches apart on the post. Patio deck sleeves: When installed in a sound deck surface (concrete, brick, etc.) deck sleeves are of a nonconductive material (plastic) Latching device: A secure latching device attaches each section of fencing at the height above the required 45" grade. Barrier level: When installed, the bottom of the mesh barrier is less than one (1") above the deck surface. INSTALLATION ALL FENCING IS REQUIRED TO BE SPACED A MINIMUM OF 20" FROM THE EDGE OF THE POOL WATER. LATCHING DEVICE: Each section must be affixed to the other at the top of the fence at least 45" above grade. One (1) of the latching devices between sections must have the jam nut tightened against the toggle wing such that it requires tools to loosen. This meets the requirement of the code specifying the use of tools to remove one post of the fence. IN SOUND SURFACES SUCH AS CONCRETE, 2" THINK INTERLOCKING BRICK, AND BRICK MORTARED TO CONCRETE; Holes are drilled in the deck surface to a depth necessary to accommodate the fence posts. These holes are sleeved with plastic sleeves. IN "UNSOUND" SURFACES SUCH AS 1""SAND SET" BRICK PAVERS Holes are drilled into the pavers to accept 1 1/8" OD aluminum tubing or similar suitable metal material or 1" or 1 '/ PVC pipe of sufficient length to extend below the paver or ground surface necessary to provide adequate support to the fence. Pipe length necessary for adequate support will dependupon the hardness of the ground or sand bed below grade. Typically this is 6"-8" when using aluminum pipe for sand set 1" thick brick paver patios where the sand bed has been thoroughly compacted and 18"-24" for grass and soil applications. GRASS AND SOIL: 1 1/8 OD aluminum tubing or similar suitable metal material such as I" or 1 'A" PVC pipe of sufficient length to extend below the ground surface to a depth necessary to provide adequate support to the fence. Pipe length necessary for adequate support will depend upon the hardness of the ground and must be determined in the field. Typicaly this is 18"-24" depending upon ground hardness and material used. 1" PVC pipe requires pouring concrete aroundit to support it. WOOD DECKS: Wood decks using 2X lumber can be drilled normally and fencing installed in the normal manner assuming the wood is in good condition. Any wood in less than good shape, thinne then 2X thickness, or not installed solidly will require an installation similar to the Sand Set Brick application listed above using tubing to extend into a solid surface below. Otherwise, the wood should be reinforced underneath with an additional block of wood screwed or nailed to the top surface. Manufacturing Office 1791.907 Blount Rd. This is necessary to avoid the point lock latch from interfering with the attachment of the MAGNA LATCH. Once the fence sections are installed and latched to their respective posts, make any necessary adjustments to bring the posts close to vertical using a level. Making sure the top bar of the frame is level with the top border of the fence, attach the frame to the hinge post with the bolts supplied. Cut off any excess bolt. This can often be done by gripping the excess bolt with vise grips and bending it back and forth until it breaks off. a. ADJUSTMENT OF THE HINGES A major benefit of the MAGNA LATCH is that it reauires very Aksjsudna Am to activate the latching mechanism. The lower the required dosing force, thelower the twist farces on the &leave oro y which counteract those forces. For this reason, we recommend adjustment of the hinge tension to the minimum jtmount necessary to apply sufficient dosing force. Be aware that both hinges do not need the same tension setting.. Try tightening the adjustment on onlyin a at a time when fine tuning the closing force_ 6. THE FINAL ATTACHMENT 1S THE GATE CATCH TO THE GATE FRAME Note how the catch dovetails together prior to attachment to the frame and how the adjustment screw and nut work together. Mark the proper position of the catch on the frame so that the catch will catch properly in the Magna Latch. The catch is first attached with two bolts through the front of the frame. The secondary attachment is with two screws through the side of the catch into the side of the frame. Don't worry that the screws are on a slight angle going into the frame. The catch is then adjustable in and out with the adjustment screw for pro . = alignment. PROTECT -A -CHILD SYSTEMS 5612885829 P.01 REMOVABLE SELF CLOSING GATE INSTRUCTIONS Because of the liability associated with setf dosing, self latching gates and their possibility of failure, Protect -A -Child Pool Fence Systems, Inc. continues to recommend our traditional gate system utilizing the removal of one past of the fence. We do, however, recognize the requirement by many municipalities for self dosing gates. Therefore, we now manufacture a self dosing gate using the quality Magna Latch. and Tru Close adjustable self closing hinges. Below please find installation instructions for this gate. PARTS LIST 1. 2 HEAVY WALL ALUMINUM POLES W MOLDINGS AND SCREWS. One has the magna latch attached, the other has the hinges attached. The hinges can be reattached if necessary if the gate must open to the right. These posts will serve as hinge post and catch post. They will also be the terminal posts for the sections of fencing which will latch to them. 2. 2 1 114" PLASTIC SLEEVES NORMALLY ASSOCIATED WITH OUR 'ALUMINUM FENCE, These will be the sleeves for the hinge and catch post. 3. 4 OF OUR LOCK IN DECK SCREWS. These screws will be placed approximately 2' up from the bottom of the aluminum poles to fit in the sleeve groove of the end and catch posts and will serve to counteract the twist of the spring loaded hinges and keep the catch post from twisting. You may wish to use 2 screws in each pale for additional holding power. { 4. ONE GATE FRAME W MESH. The mesh is attached with 3 moldings. The bottom and 2 sides of the frame.
