Roof Drainage Calculations
The re -roofing project at 9325 Bayshore Dr. maintains the three roof drains in their existing locations.
Each drain connects to an existing 3" PVC roof leader. New drain bodies will be provided connecting
to the existing pipes. These drains have adequate capacity to drain the existing roof which is
approximately 2500 square feet in area. Per the 2014 Florida Plumbing Code, each 3 -inch diameter
roof leader can drain 1760 square feet of roof for a total capacity of:
3 x 1760 = 5,280 SF » 2,500 SF OK

Note that the plumbing from the trench drains to the roof drains consists of a series of 2 inch diameter
PVC pipes which will be embedded in the foam insulation layer below the tile. The combined areas of
these pipes exceeds the combined area of the (3) 3" leaders as follows:
Cross Section of 2" diameter PVC pipe = (2.067/2) ^ 2*PI = 3.35 square inches
Cross Seciton of 3" diameter PVC pipe = (3.068/2) ^ 2*PI = 7.39 square inches
(7) 2 -inch pipes — total area = 7 * 3.35 = 23.45 square inches
(3) 3 -inch pipes — total area = 3 * 7.39 = 22.17 square inches OK
Even though equivalent drainage is provided between the new trench drains and the existing roof
drains, it should be noted that the existing drains will be maintained with open screens above the roof
leaders. This will faciliate maintenance of the drains. Also in the unlikely event of the total failure of the
trench drains and the related plumbing, the rainwater will be able to bypass the trench drains and flow
direclty into the roof drains. See below for a seciton illustrating this:
