understanding that this roof drainage evaluation was requested by the City ofkami _•• •
Shores for a roof construction permit to be submitted by RCU Corporation.
Building Information:
This is a commercial/residential building in a commercial/residential development.Please
see attached a Sketch in Appendix 1 with approximate dimensions of the roof,mid
location and details of the existing and/or proposed roof drainage system.
Assumptions and Existing Data for Drainage Calculations:
Based on information provided by the Roofing Company(RCU Corporation),there are 7
(4-inch diameter)existing Roof Drains at the center of the roof of this building.But,there
are no existing overflow scuppers at the roof of this building as shown in the attached
sketch included in Appendix 1.It appears that the parapet walls are 4 inches in some
sections of the roof and 12 inches at other sections of the roof. o-4d _ 4
The Roof Slope appears to be from the perimeter of the roof to the center,of roof;oapplicable)towards each of the 7 existing roof drains.The lowest point of the roof r ; o M:

appears to be at each of the 7 existing roof drains.Please see roof sketch attached in
Appendix 1.
The total calculated roof area of this low slope roof(flat roof)is approximately 24,040
square feet.All the roof a=was apparently originally designed to drain to the existing
roof drain system.The total area of the roof was considered for our drainage evaluation
and/or calculations.

VERTICAL CONDUCTORS(DOWNSPOUTS)
Vertical conductors for the overflow scuppers should be considered for this project to
avoid water run off on the surface of the exterior walls.But they are not required for
drainage capacity of the roof.Architectural consideration should be part of the evaluation
to install vertical conductors to the overflow scuppers if necessary.
CONCLUSIONS Alm RECONMIENDATIONS
The original roof drainage design does not need additional roof drains to handle the
rainfall However, 8 overflow scuppers are required since the roof perimeter is
surrounded by parapet walls.The roofing company should assure that the overflow 4}I i t 11�'!J
scuppers to be installed at the 12 inches parapet wall are located a minimum of 2 iq DBd ci
