FLORIDA, EMPHASIZING THE IMPORTANCE OF UPHOLDING LOCAL GOVERNMENT'S

INTERFERENCE FROM THE STATE LEGISLATURE, AND DESIGNATING COUNCILMAN
HUNT DAVIS AS SPOKESPERSON FOR THE VILLAGE COUNCIL IN MEETINGS
WITH STATE LEGISLATORS ON THAT TOPIC.
WHEREAS,The Miami Shores Village Council believes that the residents of Miami Shores Village,

policy and levy taxes in order to provide the type and quality of services they desire; and,
WHEREAS,The Florida Legislature has previously introduced and passed legislation impinging on
local government's ability to effectively and efficiently govern their own municipalities;and,
WHEREAS,These legislative actions have eroded the Village's pool of funds by which to operate
by restricting millage rate increases,while at the same time, passing unfunded mandates; and
WHEREAS,As a consequence of the State Legislature's interference, local governments are
unable to satisfactorily respond to the needs and wishes of their residents;and
WHEREAS,The State Legislature, rather than attempting to micro-manage the 400 plus
municipal governments within the State of Florida,should concentrate on addressing the many pressing
State-wide issues which are best dealt with by the Legislature;

Section 1. That the Miami Shores Village Council encourages meetings between members
of the State elected offices and Councilman Davis in order to convey the sentiments as expressed above.
