R-1047-02 RESOLUTION NO. 1047-02 A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI SHORES VILLAGE COUNCIL, MIAMI SHORES VILLAGE, FLORIDA, DECLARING THE VILLAGE'S PARTICIPATION AS A PROJECT IMPACT PARTNER. WHEREAS, Mitigation is defined as any preventative measure or policy that will reduce disaster damages that may adversely affect a community before they occur; and WHEREAS, The Local Mitigation Strategy (LMS) was developed by public and private sector partnerships to reduce the risks from the various types of disaster faced by the residents of Miami-Dade County and its' municipalities, including the development of risk reduction initiatives; and WHEREAS, Because of the initiatives and successes of the Local Mitigation Strategy, Miami-Dade County, Florida, has been designated by the Federal Emergency Management Agency as a "Project Impact Community", and is, to date, the largest community chosen as a member of Project Impact; and WHEREAS, Miami Shores Village has been a participant in the Local Mitigation Strategy efforts, and has worked with the other members of the Project Impact LMS Committee; and WHEREAS,The Local Mitigation Strategy Working Group has now evolved into the Miami- Dade"Project Impact Working Group"; and WHEREAS, this city-county partnership will support the LMS initiatives in this municipality that will allow Miami Shores Village to replace a preparedness philosophy with the more pro- active prevention or mitigation philosophy with regard to its'community planning; NOW,THEREFORE, be it duly resolved by the Miami Shores Village Council that: Section 1. Miami Shores Village is a Project Impact Partner. Section 2. We urge the Miami-Dade Project Impact Community and the Miami-Dade County Office of Emergency Management to coordinate programs and activities throughout the following year that will take all necessary efforts to reduce the risk of loss through emergency preparedness for all citizens of Miami-Dade County and Miami Shores Village. We likewise recommit the resources of this municipality to support the efforts of Project Impact and the Local Mitigation Strategy. Section 3. This Resolution will become effective up o its adoption.
