R-1023-00 RESOLUTION NO. 1023-00 A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI SHORES VILLAGE COUNCIL SUPPORTING THE EFFORTS OF BILL NELSON, INSURANCE COMMISSIONER OF THE STATE OF FLORIDA, TO RESTRICT AND PREVENT THE FLORIDA WINDSTORM ASSOCIATION FROM RAISING AND COLLECTING HIGHER PREMIUMS IN THE STATE OF FLORIDA. WHEREAS, the State of Florida, its counties and municipalities,have been addressing the need for both stable and realistic forms of windstorm insurance; and WHEREAS, over 65% of those homeowners in the Florida Windstorm Underwriting Association(FWUA)pool live in South Florida; and WHEREAS, residents throughout the area have been notified of disproportionate windstorm insurance rate hikes; and WHEREAS, Insurance Commissioner Bill Nelson's attempt to block FWUA from collecting higher premiums was unsuccessful, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED,by the Mayor and Village Council of Miami Shores Village, Florida: Section 1. That the Village Council supports the efforts of the Insurance Commissioner to preserve a stable rate structure which will ultimately provide protection to homeowners and protect those consumers from unreasonable and disproportionate rate structures and resultant higher premiums; Section 2. That the Village Council urges Governor Jeb Bush and the Florida Legislature to convene a Special Session of the Legislature to address this critical situation to effect a rate reduction and an appropriate rate structure; Section 3. That the Village Clerk will send a certified copy of this Resolution to the Governor of Florida and the members of the Florida Legislature. PASSED AND ADOPTED THIS DAY OF �, ,2000. ATTEST: Mark S.
