R-1013-00 RESOLUTION NO. 1013-2000
A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI SHORES VILLAGE COUNCIL,
MIAMI SHORES VILLAGE,FLORIDA,ENCOURAGING THE MIAMI-
DADE COUNTY,METROPOLITAN PLANNING ORGANIZATION TO
FUND THE RECONSTRUCTION OF N.E. SECOND AVENUE WITHIN
THE VILLAGE LIMITS IN FISCAL YEAR 2002/2003.
WHEREAS,The portion of N.E. Second Avenue which traverses the Village has not undergone
any roadway or surface improvements in many years and is currently in need of repairs; and,
WHEREAS,the reconstruction of the roadway is an integral component of the revitalization of
the Village's downtown district; and,
WHEREAS,The County had,at the request of the Village,temporarily set aside the project to
allow for the completion of a Design Charrette undertaken by the Regional Planning Councils and the
Greater Miami Shores Chamber of Commerce; and,
WHEREAS,The Village Council encourages the County to undertake a N.E. Second Avenue
improvement project to include pedestrian friendly,traffic calming design concepts;and,
WHEREAS, $2.4 million in funding for the project in the Fiscal Year 2002/2003 Transportation
Improvement Program("TIP")has been proposed by Miami-Dade County Staff,
NOW, THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MIAMI SHORES VILLAGE COUNCIL,
Section 1. That the Village Council hereby requests that the Miami-Dade County Public
Works Department expeditiously resume work on the planning, design and
reconstruction of a roadway improvement project for N.E. Second Avenue.
Section 2. To the greatest extent possible,the Village requests that the County adopt and
incorporate pedestrian friendly,traffic calming design concepts into the overall
roadway plan and seek consensus with the Village in the planning process.
Section 3. That the Metropolitan Planning Organization adopt the proposed$2.4 million in
funding for the reconstruction of N.E. Second Avenue in the Fiscal Year
2002/2003 Transportation Improvement Program.
Section 4. That this Resolution is effective upon its adoption by the Miami Shores Village
Council.
