R-1009-00 RESOLUTION NO. 1009-2000 A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI SHORES VILLAGE COUNCIL, OPPOSING ANY DECREASE IN THE COUNTY'S CURRENT GASOLINE TAX RATE. WHEREAS,the Miami Shores Village Council understands that the recent increases in gasoline prices have resulted in untold hardships to individuals throughout the Country; and WHEREAS,when similar circumstances were encountered in 1996,the County Commission voted to repeal a portion of the gasoline tax to provide relief to the citizens of the County; and WHEREAS,the Commission's repeal of two cents of the gas tax was not passed along to the consumer,which would have resulted in lower gasoline prices at the pumps; and WHEREAS,the 1996 repeal of two cents of the gasoline tax negatively impacted municipal revenues and dramatically reduced necessary funding for roadway improvement projects; and WHEREAS, if the County Commission repeals four cents of the gasoline tax, Miami Shores Village will realize a loss of approximately $100,000, said monies which are used for paving projects, roadway improvements, and sidewalk repairs; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND VILLAGE COUNCIL OF MIAMI SHORES VILLAGE,FLORIDA: Section 1. The Miami Shores Village Council hereby opposes any action by the County Commission which would negatively effect the municipal revenues received from the gasoline taxes. Section 2. The Village Clerk will send a certified copy of this Resolution to Mayor Penelas, all members of the Miami-Dade County Commission,the County Manager, and the Miami-Dade League of Cities.
