A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI SHORES VILLAGE COUNCIL,
MIAMI SHORES VILLAGE, FLORIDA, PROVIDING FUNDING
FOR SPECIFIC SCHOOLS WITHIN THE GREATER MIAMI
SHORES VILLAGE AREA.
WHEREAS, children residing in Miami Shores Village that will attend public school in
grades 1 through 8 are in the feeder pattern for Miami Shores Elementary School ("MS
Elementary"), and Horace Mann Middle School ("Horace Mann") and may also be eligible to
attend the Miami Shores/Barry University Connected Learning Center Charter School ("MS/BU
Charter School"); and
WHEREAS, the successful education of the youth of Miami Shores Village("Village")
and the viability of the public school system that serves it are in the best interests of the general
welfare of the Village and all of its residents; and
WHEREAS, it is the intent of the Village Council to assist the public schools attended by
Miami Shores children in grades 1 through 8, and the children of Miami Shores Village that attend
those institutions by initiating a program intended to encourage private supplemental funding for
those schools; and
WHEREAS, the success of this program will benefit all residents of Miami Shores Village
by increasing property values throughout the Village and by enhancing the quality of life in Miami
Shores Village for its children and all its residents;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the Village Council of Miami Shores
Village, Florida that:
1) The Parent/Teacher or Parent/Teacher/Student Associations (PTA's/PTSA's) of
MS Elementary, Horace Mann and the MS/BU Charter School are each
encouraged to establish independent trust accounts for the benefit of the students
attending those schools respectively.
2) For every $2.00 raised and contributed privately to any trust account described
above in Paragraph 1 between the passage of this Resolution and December 31,
1999, the Village shall contribute $1.00 to the same trust account; the Village's
contribution shall be made in a single payment no earlier than January 1, 2000, and
no later than January 31, 2000, but in no event shall the Village's contribution to
said trust accounts exceed $20,000 for the MS/BU Charter School, $15,000 for
the MS Elementary School and $15,000 for Horace Mann.
3) The sum of$50,000 is appropriated from the Village's Fund Balance to implement
the directives of this Resolution, the same being found to be for a proper municipal
purpose.
4) Any sums remaining from the $50,000 appropriation described in Paragraph 2 as
of January 31, 2000, shall be released back to the Village's General Fund Balance.
