R-0990-99 RESOLUTION NO. 990-99 A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI SHORES VILLAGE COUNCIL, MIAMI SHORES VILLAGE, FLORIDA, ENDORSING COUNTY MAYOR ALEX PENELAS' REQUEST FOR A ONE CENT SALES TAX INCREASE FOR MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, TO FUND THE TRANSPORTATION CAPITAL IMPROVEMENT PLAN. WHEREAS, Miami-Dade County Mayor Penelas has proposed a one cent sales tax increase in order to raise revenue to fund the Transportation Capital Improvement Plan; and WHEREAS, Mayor Penelas plans to give the County's registered voters an opportunity to vote to pass this additional sales tax in the near future; and WHEREAS, the revenues realized from this one cent sales tax increase will fund the much needed transportation and roadway improvements currently being considered by the Metropolitan Planning Organization; and WHEREAS, in addition to additional funding expected, the Village has been advised that the Northeast Second Avenue roadway improvement project will receive funding through Miami- Dade County if the one cent sales tax increase is approved by the voters of the County; and WHEREAS, it is in the best interests of Miami Shores Village to fully support and endorse Mayor Penelas' proposal; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND VILLAGE COUNCIL OF MIAMI SHORES VILLAGE, FLORIDA: Section 1. The Miami Shores Village Council hereby supports Mayor Alex Penelas' proposal of a one cent sales tax increase and will work with the residents of Miami Shores Village to endorse its approval. Section 2. The Village Clerk will send a certified copy of this Resolution to Mayor Penelas, all members of the Miami-Dade County Commission and the Miami-Dade League of Cities.
