R-0933-95 RESOLUTION NO. 933-95 A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI SHORES VILLAGE COUNCIL IN SUPPORT OF TEAM MIAMI - SOUTHCOM TO LOCATE THE UNITED STATES SOUTHERN MILITARY COMMAND IN GREATER MIAMI WHEREAS, the Panama Canal treaties will require the Headquarters of The United States Southern Military Command, a vital component of United States national security, to be relocated beginning in 1996 with completion by 1999; and WHEREAS, SOUTHCOM will enhance the economy and standing of Greater Miami and the State of Florida if located in Greater Miami; and WHEREAS, SOUTHCOM Headquarters comprises an organization of 700 senior level officers personnel employed in such sophisticated areas as intelligence, planning, communications and logistics; and WHEREAS, a community-wide, multi-organizational effort, including local government, is critical to a successful campaign to bring about the location of SOUTHCOM Headquarters in Greater Miami. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MIAMI SHORES VILLAGE COUNCIL, FLORIDA that: Section 1. The foregoing recitals are true and correct. Section 2 . The Miami Shores Village Council supports Team Miami - SOUTHCOM in its efforts to have SOUTHCOM Headquarters relocated to Greater Miami in the State of Florida. Section 3. The Miami Shores Village residents are urged to individually and collectively support all efforts toward the goal of relocating the United States Military Command in the Greater Miami area.
