RESOLUTION APPROVING PROPOSED AMENDMENT TO
SECTION 27 OF ARTICLE III OF THE MIAMI SHORES
VILLAGE CHARTER; PROVIDING FOR ELECTION OF
MAYOR BY COUNCIL WITH PREFERENCE GIVEN TO ANY
MEMBER HAVING SERVED A TERM OF ONE YEAR AS AN
ELECTED OFFICIAL IN THE STATE OF FLORIDA
WHEREAS, the council of Miami Shores Village believes that the
electorate of Miami Shores Village should have the right to
determine whether they wish to give priority in the election of
mayor by the council to a member who has served a minimum one ( 1)
year period as an elected official in the State of Florida,
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF MIAMI SHORES
VILLAGE, FLORIDA,
That this council hereby approves the proposed amendment to
Section 27 of Article III of the Miami Shores Village Charter,
attached hereto, which amendment provides for the election of mayor
by the council from those members of council having served a
minimum term of one ( 1) year as an elected official in the State of
Florida, if any.

PROPOSED AMENDMENT TO SECTION 27 OF
ARTICLE III OF THE MIAMI SHORES VILLAGE
CHARTER; PROVIDING LIMITATION ON ELECTION
OF MAYOR BY COUNCIL
ARTICLE III
Sec. 27 . Mayor election.
At the first meeting of a newly elected council after each
election the council shall elect one of its members mayor, who
shall be elected from those council members who have served a
minimum of one year as an elected official in the State of Florida,
if any. The mayor who shall preside at meetings of the council and
shall be recognized as head of the village government for all
ceremonial purposes and by the governor for purposes of military
law.

PROPOSED AMENDMENT TO ARTICLE III,
SECTION 26, OF THE MIAMI SHORES VILLAGE CHARTER
ARTICLE III
Sec. 26 . Council induction into office, meetings.
Newly elected councilmen shall be inducted into office on the
first Tuesday next following their election, after which the
council shall meet regularly at such times as may be prescribed by
its rules or upon call of two (2) or more members. All meetings of
the council shall be open to the public. The council shall fix its
rules of procedure, and shall act in all matters upon a majority
vote of those present, a majority of the council being necessary
for a quorum, but less than a quorum may adjourn to a specified
time. A minimum of three (3) affirmative votes of the council
shall be required on all matters. A Council member shall forfeit
the right to serve at such time as that member ceases to be a legal
resident of Miami Shores Village.
