R-0899-92 RESOLUTION NO. 899-92 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI SHORES VILLAGE, FLORIDA REQUESTING THE FLORIDA LEGISLATURE TO PROVIDE DADE COUNTY WITH THE FINANCIAL ABILITY TO RECOVER FROM HURRICANE ANDREW BY EQUITABLY DIS- TRIBUTING THE INCREASED SALES TAX DOLLARS WHICH ARE BEING COLLECTED AS A DIRECT RESULT OF HURRI- CANE ANDREW. WHEREAS, Miami Shores Village and Dade County residents have experienced tremendous personal and property damage losses as a result of Hurricane Andrew, the worst natural disaster in the history of our Nation; and WHEREAS, we recognize that monies have been distributed throughout the State, through Federal and State programs, as well as through private insurance reimbursements, to rebuild our Community; and WHEREAS, purchases generated due to Hurricane Andrew recovery efforts are projected to provide an increase in State sales tax revenues for 1992 and 1993. This increase is defined as the excess portion of sales tax generated and collected in Dade County over and above the 1992 collections; and WHEREAS, it is projected that the destruction of pro- perty in Dade County will result in lower property tax assessments in 1993 and in 1994, resulting in a substantial property tax shortfall; and WHEREAS, there are many proposals being discussed locally which would provide for these increased sales tax dollars to be used to help Dade County and its residents in their rebuilding efforts; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE VILLAGE COUNCIL OF MIAMI SHORES VILLAGE, FLORIDA, that the Miami Shores Village Council requests that the Florida Legislature, in a special legislative session in December, 1992, pass laws to distri- bute these increased sales tax dollars in an equitable manner for the purposes of supporting Dade County and its municipal- ities in their normal and extraordinary expenditures for governmental and community services in 1993.
