R-0889-92 ESOLUTION NO. 889-92 A RESOLUTION OF THE VILLAGE COUNCIL OF MIAMI SHORES VILLAGE, FLORIDA STRONGLY OPPOSING THE PROPOSED CONGRESSIONAL DISTRICTS. WHEREAS, the Council members of the Miami Shores Village Council represent the interests of all citizens within the corporate boundaries of Miami Shores Village; and WHEREAS, the residents of Miami Shores Village have a strong sense of community and commonality of interests; and WHEREAS, the United States Supreme Court has established and enunciated commonly accepted principles in apportionment in establishing district boundaries including the preserva- tion of historical, political, and community boundaries; and WHEREAS, the Village Council espouses and advocates these generally accepted principles which respect the integ- rity of municipal boundaries and provide for appropriate representation for our citizens; and WHEREAS, the State Legislature is in the process of creating new congressional districts; and WHEREAS, the House of Representatives has established proposed district boundaries to constitute 23 new congres- sional districts; and WHEREAS, the district boundaries proposed by the House of Representatives divide Miami Shores Village between two separate voting districts thereby ignoring the principles of apportionment established by our courts and failing to respect the integrity of our municipal boundaries. NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE VILLAGE COUNCIL OF MIAMI SHORES VILLAGE, FLORIDA: 1. The Miami Shores Village Council members strongly oppose the proposed congressional redistricting which will severly adversely impact the Villager's influence over future legislative decisions.
