A RESOLUTION OF THE VILLAGE COUNCIL OF THE VILLAGE
OF MIAMI SHORES OPPOSING ANY PROPOSED CHARTER AMEND-
MENT BY METROPOLITAN DADE COUNTY REQUIRING THAT ALL
POLICE DEPARTMENTS OPERATING WITHIN DADE COUNTY SHALL
BE MERGED INTO A SINGLE UNIFIED DADE COUNTY PUBLIC
SAFETY DEPARTMENT PROVIDING ALL POLICE SERVICES
THROUGHOUT THE INCORPORATED AND UNINCORPORATED AREAS
OF THE COUNTY.
WHEREAS, the recent report of The Citizens' Charter Review Advisory
Group on the Dade County Charter of May 15, 1989, made no mention or re-
commendation to the Board of County Commissioners to consolidate and/or
transfer all municipal police departments to Metropolitan Dade County, and
WHEREAS, the police response time would be lengthened If merged with
Metropolitan Dade County over that presently enjoyed by the citizens of Miami
Shores Village predicated upon existing Metropolitan Dade County police re-
sponse time criteria, and
WHEREAS, the electorate of the City of Miami , In previous charter
elections, have defeated an amendment to merge the City of Miami police with
Metropolitan Dade County, and
WHEREAS, one of the most vital services of municipalities is to pro-
vide adequate and responsive police services to Its citizens that can best be
served on a local basis,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE VILLAGE COUNCIL OF THE VILLAGE
OF MIAMI SHORES:
Section 1 . That the Village Council of the Village of
Miami Shores opposes any charter amendment by
Metropolitan Dade County requiring that all
police departments operating within Dade
County shall be merged Into a single unified
Dade County Public Safety Department provid-
Ing all police services throughout the in-
corporated and unincorporated areas of the
county.
Section 2 . That the Village Manager shall cause copies
of this resolution to be sent to the Mayor and
Board of County Commissioners of Metropolitan
Dade County.
